10 Medicinal Plants To Grow In Home Garden

It is very important to have medicinal plants around the house cause you never know when you might need them.
Given below are some of my favorite medicinal plants. These plants can not only be grown easily but they also require very less care.
1. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera plant is the most common houseplant grown as it is easy to grow with many medicinal uses. Aloe Vera has thick and fleshy, green-grey leaves arising from the base of without stem. The leaves have serrated margins with small white teeth.
The sap from aloe vera is extremely useful to speed up the healing & reducing the risk of infections for :
- wounds
- cuts
- burns
- reducing inflammation
2. Mint (Mentha)
Out of all the herbs, probably mint is the easiest one to grow at home, not only they are easy to grow but they pack loads of flavours to your food.
Minimal care is needed for mint. For outdoor plants, use a light mulch. This will help keep the soil moist and keep the leaves clean.
Mint plants can be used by breastfeeding mothers for preventing nipple crack & nipple pain. It is used in common cold, indigestion & gas. It can be used for healing ulcers. Mint is also used as painkillers & for cooling skin infected by an insect bite.
3. Tulsi(Basil)
Tulsi or holy basil is an incredible herb, its great medicinal and spiritual characteristics proven in many scientific studies.
Holy basil is a medicinal herb native to the Indian subcontinent, its spicy and refreshing fragrance, and tiny colorful flowers make this a useful plant to grow at any herb garden. Tulsi grows as a perennial plant in frost-free areas with mild winter and as an annual in cold and temperate climates.
Tulsi has proved to be highly effective in protecting our body from various infections and diseases of heart, liver, skin, kidney etc. So, Tulsi is rightly called the ‘Queen of Herbs’.
Tulsi leaves are rich in vitamins A, C and K and minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron and potassium. It also has a good amount of protein and fibre.
4. Basil
Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is often referred to as the king of herbs. Basil plants are certainly one of the most popular herbs grown in the home garden. Growing basil outdoors or in a container is very easy to do

5. Thyme(Ajavaayan Ke Phool)
Thyme is a wonderful herb with a pleasant, pungent, clover flavor. It smells like summer to us! There are both fragrant ornamental types as well as culinary thyme varieties which add a savory note to summer soups, grilled meats, and vegetables.
Thyme thrives in full sun and loves heat. If you are growing in a pot indoors, plant near a sunny window.
Soil needs to drain well so there aren’t “wet feet.” In the garden, plant with other drought-tolerant perennials.
Getting all the vitamins your body needs every day can be challenging. Luckily, thyme is packed with vitamin C and is also a good source of vitamin A. If you feel a cold coming on, thyme can help get you back in good health.
6. Rosemary(Rojamairee)
Rosemary plant care is easy. When growing rosemary plants, provide them with well-drained, sandy soil and at least six to eight hours of sunlight. These plants thrive in warm, humid environments and cannot take extremely cold temperatures.
Be sure to get cuttings or divide the plant for next season if it won’t survive winter in your area. Rosemary is not only known for its taste and smell; it is also renowned for the many health benefits it possesses. A good source of iron, calcium and vitamins A, C, and B-6, rosemary has been used for its medicinal purposes for centuries.
7. Carom(Ajwain)
Carom seeds also known as Ajwain is one of the most commonly found home and kitchen ingredients. These seeds are sprinkled or added in almost every Indian curry recipe. Ajwain seeds do possess a strong Aroma which not only adds up to the flavor of the food but also adds up to many health benefits.
It’s an attractive and easy-to-grow herb for beds and indoor containers. You just need a little carom plant info to start enjoying this fragrant, tasty herb.
Carom will grow in nearly any soil type but prefers more alkaline soil. It does not need a lot of organic material, and once in the ground, will only need regular watering and sunlight. 8. Brahmi(Braahmee)
Brahmi cuttings are the easiest to grow into plants. Cut a stem (with leaves) of the herb and place it in a pot of water. Change the water every day for about a week. By this time, you will see roots growing, and you can transfer the sapling into a pot or a garden patch.
It prefers part to full sun and will grow in a wide range of soils. As long as it gets sufficient water, it can thrive in rock, sand and mud.

9. Cayenne Pepper(Mirchi)
